Artist's Comments

This was taken outside my parent's house in the winter of 1990, right around christmas time. It's a sweet gum tree just after a snow storm.

It had just stopped snowing and I wanted to get some pictures before the snow fell off the branches. Thanks for the :+fav:

You claimed that your Jersey shore was tame compared to my west coast, well, this snow is a sight we never see! Well, occationally up in the mountains - about half an hour away. Love the contrast of the dark wood with the snow and sky!

We don't get a lot of snow but we do get it. As far as the Jersey shore is concerned, unlike the rest of the country, you have to pay to get on the beach. They claim it's to pay for maintenance but I've been other places that don't charge (the rest of the country) and the Jersey beaches are nowhere near as nice. There is a movement to get rid of the beach fees but the towns are hooked on the revenue, so it won't happen.

That's a bit like the beaches south of us (I'm in Ventura county - that's north of Los Angeles but south of Santa Barbara counties) the high end land owners (the rich that own beachfront property) won't allow access to the beach. Although the beach from the high tide line down is open to everyone if you have miles of homes then noone can get to those beaches without hiking or kayaking along the coast...but Ventura county still has a lot of open beach space, thank goodness! And Santa Barbara feels that the bluffs should stay open and free of development - as it's the largest stretch still open.

The beaches here are owned by the local, county or state governments, depending on the area. There are a couple of state parks along the coast but most of the beaches are under local jurisdiction. It's still a scam when it comes to beach fees. I've got family in your area so I'm familiar with the area, sort of. I've been out there a few times.

it's a bit blurred but it works because of the black on white

it gives great texture

perfection!

Some of the fuzziness is due to the weather. There was still a little bit of snow coming down. Thanks for the fave.
